Make Sure You Get Your Car's Windshield Repaired As Soon As Possible

When it comes to your windshield, you need for it to be as strong as possible. That's why you need to make sure that you get any cracks or dings in your windshield fixed as soon as possible.

Laminated Glass

One reason for that is because the glass in your windshield is laminated glass. A lamination is two layers of material that are adhered together with some kind of adhesive. The lamination makes the end product stronger than the original materials would have been on their own. In the case of your windshield glass, the layers are made up of two pieces of glass that are stuck together with an adhesive and then compressed so that they become one cohesive whole. However, a crack or a hole in one layer of your windshield will allow moisture to get in between the layers of glass. That moisture can then work its way down into the rest of the windshield. As that happens, it will separate out the layers of glass, weakening your windshield. There are a lot of reasons why that is a very bad thing.

Safety System

One reason why weakening your windshield is a very bad thing is that you depend on it as part of your car's safety features. The windshield helps to tie everything together and keeps the car rigid and you inside its safety system. Any crack in that windshield makes your car less strong and less safe. Another reason that the windshield helps to keep you safe is that it is designed to not shatter when it gets broken. It will crack and spider, but the adhesive will keep everything together, so you won't have any sharp shards of glass falling down on you. The windshield can also help you to stay in the car if the accident might try to throw you out. The lamination, while it makes the windshield strong, it also gives it a little bit of flex, and keeps it from breaking all the way through. So, the inner layer may break because you come into contact with it, but the outer layer does not.

Your windshield is a very important part of your car. If something happens to it and it gets a crack or a chip, you need to make sure that you get it fixed as soon as you can so that it continues to be able to help you stay safe when you are in your car.
